Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
Niyya ("we", "our", "the app") is built and operated by Usman Khalil. We respect your privacy. This policy describes what data the app handles, how it's used, and your rights. The short version: your data stays on your device.
TL;DR. We don't run a backend. Niyya doesn't collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data on our servers. Two anonymous network calls happen: one to fetch prayer times by city, one to look up barcoded foods. Nothing else leaves your phone.
1. What we collect
When you use Niyya, the following information may be entered and stored locally on your device in iOS UserDefaults. It never leaves your phone.
- Profile: name, age, gender, height, weight, target weight, body measurements
- Health: medical conditions, allergies, medications, supplements, dietary preferences, health timeline events, daily check-offs, weight log
- Activity: food log entries, water intake, custom workouts, saved meal templates, GLP-1 dose history, prep step check-offs
- Photos you choose to attach: profile photo, photos of medication labels (used only for on-device text recognition)
- Location (optional): your city and country, used to fetch local prayer times. Precise GPS coordinates are never stored or transmitted — they're resolved to a city locally and discarded.
2. How we use your data
- To provide app features: schedule, reminders, meal plans, prayer times, condition-specific guidance
- To send you local notifications you've configured per category
- To display trends, charts, and progress on your device over time
- We do not sell, share, or use your data for advertising
- We do not track you across other apps or websites
- We do not use any analytics SDKs in v1.0
3. Where your data lives
All your data is stored locally on your device. Niyya does not run a server-side database. Your data never leaves your iPhone unless you choose to share a screenshot with us.
If, in a future version, we add optional iCloud sync, you'll be asked to opt in explicitly before any data leaves the device. Sync, if introduced, will use Apple's iCloud — not a Niyya-operated server.
4. Third-party services
- Aladhan API (api.aladhan.com): we send your city and country strings to fetch local prayer times. No personal identifier, no account, no IP-based tracking. Aladhan is a free public API.
- Open Food Facts (world.openfoodfacts.org): when you scan a barcode, we send the barcode number to look up nutrition info. No personal data is sent.
- Apple Push Notifications: local notifications only. Niyya schedules them on the device; nothing is sent to Apple servers about you or your content.
- Apple Vision framework: on-device text recognition for medication labels. Photos and recognition happen entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
- Apple Speech framework: voice food logging uses on-device transcription. Audio is processed locally and not transmitted.
5. Your rights
You can at any time:
- Access all your data inside the app
- Modify any field in Profile, Health → Medications, or Health → Timeline
- Delete all data via Profile → Start over (this permanently clears every value Niyya has stored on your device)
- Opt out of any notification or feature in Settings, including disabling location entirely
Under GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), and similar laws, you also have the right to data portability and the right to know what's stored. Because all data lives locally on your device, you already have direct access at all times.
6. Children
Niyya is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a child has used the app, please contact us. Again, all data is stored locally on the child's device, not on our servers.
7. Health & medical disclaimer
Niyya provides educational lifestyle guidance only. It is not medical advice. Always consult your physician, dietitian, or licensed healthcare provider before changing your diet, exercise routine, supplements, or medications. Niyya is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, or cure any disease.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent changes. If changes are material, we'll notify you via the app on next launch.
9. Contact
Questions, concerns, or requests can be sent to support@niyya.io.
