Common questions

Do I need an account to use Niyya?

No. There is no sign-up, no email collection, and no login. Open the app and start using it. All your data lives only on your iPhone in iOS UserDefaults.

I lost my data after deleting the app

Niyya stores everything on-device with no cloud backup in v1. Uninstalling the app removes all data. We are evaluating optional iCloud sync for a future release. If you need to reset your data on purpose, use Profile → Start over inside the app.

How do prayer times work? They look wrong for my location.

Niyya picks the calculation authority used by mosques in your country automatically: Karachi (Hanafi Asr) for South Asia, ISNA for North America, Umm Al-Qura for Saudi Arabia, MWL for Europe, and so on. If your local mosque follows a different method, open Settings → Prayer calculation and override the method and Asr school. Times update when you change cities.

The barcode scanner doesn't recognize a food

Niyya uses the public Open Food Facts database (1.5 million products). Some regional items aren't indexed. When that happens, tap "Quick add" to enter calories and macros manually, or use voice log to describe the meal.

Voice logging didn't work / no transcript appeared

Voice logging uses Apple's on-device speech recognition. Make sure Microphone and Speech Recognition permissions are granted in Settings → Privacy & Security → Speech Recognition / Microphone. Free tier is limited to five voice logs per day.

Is the medical content vetted?

Every meal plan, workout routine, and supplement note is anchored to public clinical guidelines (ACSM, ADA, AHA, ACOG, ESHRE, APTA, Monash University FODMAP, Arthritis Foundation). Niyya provides educational guidance only. Always confirm changes with your physician before adjusting diet, exercise, or medication.

Will my data sync across devices?

Not at launch. Everything is on-device only. We may add opt-in iCloud sync in a future release. We will never sync to a Niyya-operated server.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Niyya v1 is free with no subscription. A paid Premium tier is planned for a future release. When it launches, subscriptions will be managed through Apple's standard Subscriptions screen in iOS Settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions).

How do I delete all my data?

Open Niyya → Profile tab → Start over. This permanently clears every value Niyya has stored on your device. You can also uninstall the app, which removes all data from your phone instantly.

Is Niyya only for Muslims?

No. The prayer reminder feature is optional and toggleable per category in Settings. Niyya works as a halal-aware diet and health tracker with prayer features disabled. Non-Muslim users with any of the 13 supported conditions get the same personalized plans.
